WHO, WHEN & WHERE

Zoo Programs\ Starting Saturday, the Mill Mountain Zoo will present special programs on the amphitheater every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The 1990 schedule is as follows:

Wednesdays, 2 p.m., "Zoo Animals."

Fridays, 2 p.m., "Birds of Prey;" 3 p.m., "What is a Mammal?"

Saturdays, 2 p.m., "Species Survival Program;" 3 p.m., "Reptiles - Scales or Slime?"

Sundays, 2 p.m., "Rain Forests - Program for Belize;" 3 p.m., "Create Your Own Backyard Habitat."

Mill Mountain is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through April 13. After this date, the hours will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Present admission is $2 for adults; $1 for children. Effective April 2, admission increases to $2.75 for adults; $1.75 for children.

\ `Eubie!' in Lexington

Six decades of music and dance will fill the stage at Lexington High School as the musical "Eubie!" pays tribute to composer Eubie Blake Sunday at 8 p.m. The musical is part of the Rockbridge Concert-Theatre Series.

The Black Spectrum Theatre Company, a professional touring company of musicians, singers and dancers, will celebrate Blake's 76-year career in a performance that replaces the canceled "Ma Rainey's Black Bottom."

Blake was on stage at the age of 95 to receive congratulations when "Eubie!" was a hit on Broadway in 1978. The last king of ragtime composed more than one thousand songs that spanned many different time periods and musical styles.

\ Volunteer Openhouse

Sunday, April 8, from noon to 3 p.m. is Volunteer Openhouse at Mill Mountain Zoo.

\ Regional artists in show

Seventeen artists, including New Yorkers Wolf Kahn and Larry Horowitz and such well-known regional painters as Ray Kass and Marcia McDade, will be included in a show opening May 10 at Gallery 3.

The exhibit is to be called "American Landscape." It will run through June 9.

There will be an opening reception May 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the gallery, which is on the Roanoke City Market.

Other regional artists whose work will be included are Christine Adams, Mary Ann Harman, Carol Hoge, Fred Nichols, Frank Hobbs, Ron Boehmer, Diane Johnson, Ed Bordett and Jim Hevener.

The work of American impressionists Liz Vest, Jim Lumley, Gerald Deloach and Hilda Neily also will be in the show.

\ Adoption workshop

Families for Private Adoption, a volunteer parent support organization, has scheduled a spring session of its two-part workshop "Successful Private Adoption."

The workshop will be held May 11 and 18 at 7:30 p.m. on the Arlington campus of George Mason University.

Topics to be discussed include legal aspects, financial considerations and relations with biological parents.

Cost is $85 per couple for FPA members; $100 for non-members. Advance registration is recommended.
