ENROLLMENT BY BLACKS RISES IN U.S. COLLEGES

Reversing years of decline, enrollment of black students at colleges and universities in the United States increased from 1986 to 1988, particularly in private institutions, according to new figures compiled by the Department of Education.

Much of the rise is being attributed to more creative and aggressive recruiting of minority students while offering them more financial aid, experts said Thursday. - The New York Times
