CAL THOMAS DOTH PROTEST TOO MUCH

CAL THOMAS has finally turned in on himself. He wants to ban and burn "The handmaid's tale" (column March 18).

Any serious reader can find a parallel here. He rants on for 16 paragraphs to set up exactly the mentality described in the book. The book and the film are not bashing Christianity but close-minded, lock-step hypocrisy.

We're indebted to Cal for making it clear that precedent has been set for the assumptions in the book. He closes his diatribe by speaking of "feminism's last gasp." Doesn't he wish!\ NANCY DOWDY\ BLACKSBURG
