HONDURAS MILITARY PRESSES HUNT FOR MEN WHO ATTACKED AMERICANS

This country's top military officer has vowed to capture the gunmen who wounded eight U.S. airmen in an ambush, and a nationwide manhunt for suspected leftist rebels was under way.

Hours after three gunmen opened fire on a bus carrying 28 U.S. airmen an anonymous caller to a radio network claimed responsibility on behalf of the leftist Morazano National Liberation Front.

U.S. Embassy spokesman Terrence Kneebone said the Honduran military was assuming the front, which has claimed responsibility for previous attacks on U.S. soldiers, was behind Saturday's attack.

All U.S. military personnel in Honduras were confined to barracks, and Kneebone said the U.S. Embassy advised U.S. citizens to keep a low profile and avoid public places where they could be targeted for attack.
