CORD, RUTH G.

RADFORD - Ruth Graham Cord, age 84, a lifelong resident of Radford, passed away Sunday, April 1, 1990 at South Roanoke Nursing Home. She was a graduate of Radford High School, earned a BA in Education from Radford University, a Master in Education from Virginia Tech and attended Chicago Art Institute. She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church. She served Radford City Schools for 45 years as both teacher and principal. She was a member of D.A.R., former president of Chapter H. of the PEO, Radford Woman's Club, lifetime member of the N.E.A. and a member of the New River Valley Historical Society. She participated in the Long Way Home Theatre, was former president of Radford Community Theatre, and Associate Director of Radford Recreation Department in its formative years. She was associated with Blacksburg Community Concerts, was a longtime member of the Radford Republican Committee and was a volunteer at Radford Community Hospital. Surviving are one daughter, Colleen Mangum, Austin, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Edward A. and Linda A. Cord, Jr., Roanoke; two brothers, Grant and Lewis Graham, both of Radford; sister, Mrs. Eloise Turner, Radford; five grandchildren, Robin R. Mangum; Janet Ruth Mangum; Douglas Grant Mangum; Amy Leigh Cord; Edward A. Cord, III. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church in Radford with the Rev. Michael K. Thompson and the Rev. Dr. Robert Copenhaver officiating. Interment will follow in West View Cemetery, Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the Living Memorial Fund of Grace Episcopal Church, 4th and Harvey St., Radford, VA 24141. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday at Seaver-Sanders Funeral Home, Radford.
