JACKPOT WINNER THOUGHT WIN WAS APRIL FOOLS' JOKE

When George Hasik's son woke him up Sunday and told him he had won the Virginia Lotto, it was supposed to be an April Fools' Day joke.

"Then I checked my numbers and realized he wasn't kidding," Hasik said Monday after collecting the first installment of the $5.58 million prize.

Hasik, a Navy research analyst who lives in Alexandria, bought the winning ticket Saturday at a 7-Eleven store just hours before the numbers he selected, 5-32-36-37-40-42, were picked for the jackpot.

Hasik's first payment after taxes was $211,394. He will receive 19 additional checks, in annual installments, of $212,040 after taxes.
