TEST CHEATING SPREADS IN INDIA

Evidence of test buying and other cheating has led the Educational Testing Service to cancel the scores of some 6,600 students in India who took the Graduate Record Examination between October and February.

In the wake of what is almost certainly the worst case in history of cheating on standardized tests, the testing service said Monday it will offer the exams less often and at fewer locations in India.

A five-month investigation found security breaches at many test centers and evidence that students had been able to buy copies of the exam in advance.

The problems came to light in December when the Princeton, N.J.-based test service said it was wiping out the scores of 2,744 Indian students who took the GRE in October. The test is for admission to graduate school.
