YOUNGBLOOD CHOSEN KOLLMORGEN CHIEF

John Youngblood has been elected chairman and chief executive officer of Kollmorgen Corp., which operates three manufacturing plants in Radford, Va.

Youngblood, 49, was the company's president and chief operating officer. He replaces James Swiggett, who is retiring for personal reasons, a company news release said.

Kollmorgen has reported a net loss of $18.9 million for 1989, blaming almost all of it on a failed merger initiated by Vernitron Corp. and efforts to restructure the company. - New River Valley bureau
