Ford Motor Co. has agreed to pay $6 million to settle a lawsuit filed by a San Diego couple whose child died in the crash of their car, which did not have rear shoulder harness restraints, it was announced Wednesday.

Twelve out of 16 Bonwit Teller department stores will go out of business, including the exclusive chain's flagship store on Fifth Avenue in New York City, under bankruptcy arrangements reached Wednesday.

Managers of three major public pension funds Wednesday demanded stronger action from Exxon Corp. Chairman Lawrence G. Rawl to correct the company's poor and potentially costly environmental record but received no commitments in a meeting with Exxon executives.
