CHEMOTHERAPY AHEAD FOR GOP CHAIRMAN

Republican Party Chairman Lee Atwater will receive chemotherapy in addition to the radiation treatments being used to combat a brain tumor.

In a statement issued Wednesday through Republican Party headquarters, Dr. Paul Kornblith described the tumor as "aggressive and dangerous," but said Atwater was fortunate that it was "quite small and has been detected early in its development."

Atwater will be able to be discharged from the hospital in a few days and may well be able to return to work in some degree within a couple of weeks, Kornblith said.
