MARTINSVILLE MAN KILLED IN SHOOTING

A 37-year-old Henry County man was shot to death in his mobile home early Thursday morning, Henry County authorities said.

Thomas Holmes of Route 6, Martinsville, was shot once in the head just after midnight, said Lt. Jim Kendrick of the Henry County Sheriff's Department.

Kendrick said police answered a 911 call to Holmes' residence and found him dead.

Another man, Lazar Jones of Route 5, Bassett, also was shot at Holmes' residence, Kendrick said. Jones was in a hospital Thursday, recovering after surgery for a gunshot wound in the arm, he said.

No one had been charged Thursday and the matter still was under investigation, Kendrick said. He declined to give any additional information except to say that other people were present in the mobile home when the shooting occurred. Those witnesses are being questioned, he said.
