ROANOKE MAN GETS 10-YEAR ARSON TERM

A Roanoke man was sentenced Thursday to 10 years in prison for setting his estranged wife's Hunt Avenue apartment on fire.

Robert Nathaniel Harvey, 34, pleaded guilty to a charge of arson and was sentenced by Roanoke Circuit Judge Diane Strickland.

The Nov. 20 fire destroyed the contents of a living room at Brightwood Manor apartments. No one was injured.

Sherbie Harvey, Harvey's estranged wife, told police at the time that Harvey threatened to burn her home during an argument.

As she was calling police from a nearby apartment, she noticed smoke coming from her home. Police determined that Harvey had dumped gasoline on the living room furniture and set the room on fire.

Harvey fled and was arrested about two weeks later.
