STRIP MINING CHANGES TOPIC OF CLINCH LECTURE

A lecture on innovations in reclaiming strip-mined land will be given at Clinch Valley College April 17 at 7:30 p.m. in the Science Building.

The talk will be by Lee Daniels, associate professor in Virginia Tech's department of crop and soil environmental sciences.

Daniels also conducts funded research for the Powell River Project, a research and educational approach to economic, environmental and social concerns stemming from mining in Virginia's coal counties.

The lecture, which is open to the public, will be on sludge applications at the project as examples of advances in reclamation leading to productive use of the land. Daniels will also discuss maintainance or improvement of water quality, and treatments for reclaiming mine soils.
