USAIR ADDS NEW FEEDER LINE

USAir said Thursday that it has concluded a marketing agreement with StatesWest Airlines to serve several new routes on the West Coast.

StatesWest, which has six jet-prop planes, is based in Phoenix, Ariz. The deal takes effect July 15. StatesWest will remain independently owned but, as part of the USAir Express feeder airline network, its planes will be painted with the USAir colors and logo.

Edwin I. Colodny, chairman and president of Virginia-based USAir, has said several times that the California market is so highly competitive that no airline can make money there. United Airlines and American Airlines have said they will greatly expand service between the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas. Colodny recently told airline analysts that he expected a "blood bath" to ensue.
