PROUD OF CHANCE TO VOTE ON MERGER

IT IS A sad experience to hear people such as Clyde W. Clark (letter March 9) bad-mouth our valley and our state after only spending six short years in our midst.

It is amazing that he can emphatically call consolidation a sham. Whatever happened to "United we stand, divided we fall"?

I moved here from Atlanta in 1936 and I still don't know if consolidation will work, simply because it hasn't been tried. I do know that I, for one, am proud of the opportunity to vote on the subject, and I, for one, am proud to show off our air terminal to my friends and business associates.

I won't ask Clark to "love us or leave us." I will ask him to overlook our weaknesses and mistakes and join us in trying to make our valley one we can all be proud of.\ WILLIAM H. MORGAN\ ROANOKE
