Mrs. Andrews, the former Mary Spotswood Eggleston, is a Portsmouth native. She is a member of the Roanoke Woman's Club, Thursday Morning Music Club, the Mountain View Garden Club and the Red Cross.
Mr. Andrews, a native of Oklahoma, retired from the Roanoke Times & World-News after 40 years as a news editor, city editor and editor of the editorial page. He was president of the National Conference of Editorial Writers. His weekly radio program, "Over the Editor's Desk" was broadcast for 23 years on WDBJ. Andrews graduated from the College of William and Mary and served on the College Board of Visitors and the Alumni Board. He organized the Order of the White Jacket, which assists students in need of financial aid. Andrews served for three years in the U.S. Navy during World War II and retired as a lieutenant commander. Former president of the Roanoke Rotary Club, he is a life member of the Salvation Army Advisory Board and chairman of the Mill Mountain Development Committee.
The Andrewses are members of the Roanoke Country Club and Roanoke Rose Society. They have been members of First Presbyterian Church for 60 years. He teaches Sunday School, serves as an elder and sings in the choir. She served as chairman of memorial flowers and arrangements in the sanctuary.
