T. Chapman Porterfield, age 80, of Roanoke, died Friday night in a Roanoke hospital. He was Secretary Treasurer of Porterfield Distributing Co. and was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He was born in Giles County, Va., the son of Anabel Lucas and Bittle Wilson Porterfield. Surviving are his wife, Isabel Rivinus Porterfield, Roanoke; one daughter, Mrs. Samuel Bowman (Ellen) Wheeler, Devon, Penn.; two stepdaughters, Diane Phelps Rivinus, Arlington, Va.; Mrs. Luther R. (Jeanette) Vann, Winston-Salem, N.C.; stepson and wife, Randolph P. and Susan Rivinus, Alpharetta, Ga.; three grandsons, three stepgrandsons, and one stepgranddaughter; three sisters, Nancy P. Greenwood, Roanoke; Minnie Howe Haymaker, Christiansburg; Mrs. W. W. (Dorothy) Carson, Warrenton, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at St. John's Episcopal Church at 3:00 p.m. Monday by the Rev. Clay H. Turner. Burial will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends at St. John's Episcopal Church Chapel Sunday evening from 5:00 to 7:00. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to St. John's or to a favorite charity. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.
