CHILDREN'S PARADE ENTRIES SOUGHT

Roanoke's Festival in the Park invites entries into its fourth annual children's parade. This year, giant balloons that have become the trademark of the parade will float alongside tiny "Shoebox Floats" constructed by local children.

The parade, sponsored in part by WSLS-TV (Channel 10), will begin Sunday, May 27, at 4 p.m. The 5-block downtown Roanoke route begins at the old IBM building and continues down Jefferson Street, passing directly by Elmwood Park and the Festival, and ends at Colonial Plaza.

Children and teen-agers under 18 are invited to dress in costume, create or decorate their own versions of a miniature parade float and march the route. Festival will sponsor a "Shoebox Float" construction, and children will be invited to make their own at special workshops. Schedules will be announced later.

Pre-registration is requested. Call Owen Grogan, Roanoke City Parks & Recreation Office, at 981-2236.

Roanoke's Festival in the Park will be held May 25-28 and June 1-3.
