MCCOMBS, DOROTHY F.\ BLACKSBURG - Mrs. Dorothy Foster McCombs, age 66, died Sunday, April 8, 1990, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was born in Washington, D.C. to the late Harry David and Esther Cowan Foster. Mrs. McCombs attended Ohio State University and earned an A.B. from Meredith College in Raleigh, N.C. in 1962; a M.S.L.S. from the University of North Carolina in 1967; and a M.A. from V.P.I. and S.U. in 1976. She was a reference librarian at the Meredith College Library from 1961 to 1971 and at the Virginia Tech Walter E. Newman Library from 1972 until retirement in 1989. Surviving are her husband, C. Leslie McCombs; one daughter, Leslie Catherine McCombs-Porter, Raleigh, N.C.; two sons, Andrew Foster McCombs, Pacific Grove, Calif.; David Jefferson McCombs, Greensboro, N.C.; six grandchildren, Robert Salzler and Tyler Salzler, Raleigh, N.C.; Patrick John McCombs and Evan Andrew McCombs, California; Michael Bryan McCombs and Catherine Kelly McCombs, Greensboro, N.C.; one sister, Dr. Catherine Foster, Monroe, Ga. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 11, at 10:00 a.m. at Blacksburg Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Cameron D. Murchison, Jr. In lieu of flowers, the McCombs family suggests that friends may send donations to the Dorothy Foster McCombs Scholarship Fund, C/O Virginia Tech Foundation, Blacksburg, Va., 24061. This scholarship will assist students from the Appalachian area attending Virginia Tech. Arrangements by Hoy-McCoy Funeral Home.
