TUITION WILL RISE AT MARY WASHINGTON

Virginia students at Mary Washington College will pay 3 percent more for tuition while out-of-state students will pay 9.5 percent more, but college officials say the school is a bargain compared to others across the state.

Tuition will rise by $44, to $1,490, for Virginia students and by $392, to $4,514, for out-of-state students.

The board approved new charges for the 1990-1991 academic year that raise the combined cost of tuition, comprehensive fees, room and board for in-state students to $6,372, an increase of $190, or 3.1 percent.

Out-of-state undergraduates will pay $9,396, up $538, or 6.1 percent.
