REDSKINS, D.C. CLOSE TO AGREEMENT

Agreement is near between Washington Redskins owner Jack Kent Cooke and District of Columbia officials on a deal to build a 75,000 seat open-air stadium for the National Football League team, according to a published report.

The two sides have agreed that the state-of-the-art facility will be built near Robert F. Kennedy Stadium, the Redskins' home since 1961, The Washington Post reports in today's editions.

Sources say only a few minor details remain to be worked out before Cooke would be allowed to proceed with the privately-financed venture.

The newspaper also says that the district government has agreed to provide adequate parking to accomodate the 20,000-plus ticketholders over the 54,000 seat capacity of RFK Stadium.

The new stadium is expected to be completed in time for the 1993 NFL season. The Redskins would remain tenants at RFK Stadium until that time.
