IRS EXTENDS PHONE HOURS FOR TAX HELP

The Internal Revenue Service will extend the hours of its toll-free telephone Saturday and Monday to help with last-minute questions.

Federal income tax returns must be postmarked by midnight Monday. The usual April 15 deadline falls on a Sunday this year.

Taxpayers with questions may call 1-800-424-1040 Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Monday, 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m. The usual hours will prevail Monday at IRS walk-in assistance offices. Only those in the office by 4:30 p.m. will be helped. - Staff report
