Olivia Newton-John, well known for her environmental activism, is damaging a stretch of the California coastline, her Malibu, Calif., neighbors charged in a Superior Court civil complaint.

Newton-John and her husband, actor Matt Lattanzi, have removed tons of dirt and sand since last July in preparation for building a 6,000-square-foot home overlooking Escondido Beach.

Angry neighbors say huge amounts of dirt, sand and debris have been dumped into the ocean and have polluted the water and washed up on their property.

Carole Simpson, an ABC news correspondent who claims to have been assaulted recently by a South African police officer, says she will not return to the country until its apartheid policy ends.

"I'll go back when apartheid is over, and I don't think that's going to happen soon," Simpson said Monday.

Simpson said she still suffers nightmares that began after an officer grabbed her from behind, threw her against a car and struck her in the kidneys during a disturbance in Johannesburg.

Simpson, who is black, was injured while covering a church service Feb. 10, the day before African National Congress leader Nelson Mandela was released after 27 years of imprisonment.

Mel Harris, "thirtysomething" actress, and her husband, Cotter Smith of "Equal Justice," are the parents of a 7-pound, 13-ounce girl.

Harris, who plays a yuppie mom and wife on ABC's show emulating the baby boom generation, gave birth to her second child April 3.

During her pregnancy, Harris' character, Hope, also was pregnant. When she returns to the show, she will have two children, said her manager, Molly Madden.

Kara Kennedy, daughter of Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, D-Mass., plans to marry Michael Allen in the fall, according to a statement issued by her family Tuesday.

Kennedy, a 1983 graduate of Tufts University, is a producer for a television program in Boston. Allen was graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1981 and is an architect in Washington.
