FAKE-MONEY WARNING ISSUED AROUND CARROLL

Counterfeiters passed at least three fake $100 bills in Carroll County last weekend, and authorities in surrounding counties are alerting merchants to be on the lookout for the bogus bills.

Terry Montgomery, investigator with the Wythe County Sheriff's Department, said the bills were dated 1985 and were from the "L" and "E" series.

Wythe County stores had found some counterfeit $50 bills during the past two months.
