BRITAIN STOPS SHIPMENT OF SUSPECTED GUN PARTS

British customs officials impounded a shipment of suspected gun parts bound for Iraq, officials reported Wednesday. The seizure came two weeks after U.S.-made components for nuclear detonators were confiscated en route to Baghdad.

Press Association, Britain's domestic news agency, said the consignment impounded Tuesday night on a dock in northeastern England included parts for a 131-foot gun barrel, apparently the largest of its type ever made.

"It is capable of firing a nuclear shell which could easily hit Iran or any other Middle East trouble spot from Iraq," a spokesman said.
