CONDITION UPGRADED FOR HURT TECH STUDENT

A Virginia Tech student who fell from a fourth-floor window of a dormitory last week was listed Wednesday in stable condition at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Joe Joplin III, 18, of Rocky Mount, had been in serious condition since he fell about 40 feet early Friday from a window in Lee Hall while visiting fraternity brothers. He suffered a cut artery in his neck, damaged spleen and broken wrist.

Tech spokesman David Nutter said it appeared that alcohol was involved in the incident.
