RAM DIRECTOR QUITTING TO PURSUE GRADUATE DEGREE

Wendy Moore has submitted her resignation as executive director of Roanoke Area Ministries.

Moore has been the administrator of the ecumenical service organization for the past five years. For four years prior to that, she was director of what is now called the Child Abuse Prevention Council.

Moore, 40, told the RAM board of directors Wednesday that she would be leaving as of June 1 to begin work on a graduate degree.

Rabbi Frank Muller, president of RAM, said today "it is hard to imagine RAM without Wendy Moore," whose name has become synonymous with the agency.

Muller said Moore will be difficult to replace, but that a search will begin immediately.

Moore's tenure has been marked by significant growth and expansion of services, Muller said. That has included the creation of the RAM House day shelter for the homeless, as well as enlarging the family emergency assistance program.

The agency's budget has more than doubled during that time as well, to about $250,000 this year.

Moore said she would be seeking a degree in administration and expects to return to social services work after receiving it. While it is difficult contemplating leaving a job with people she likes so much, Moore said, the time was right to pursue the degree she has been hoping to earn.
