FRANKLIN BEGINNING RACE SEASON

A large field, including nine former track champions, is expected tonight when Franklin County Speedway opens its 21st season of racing.

Promoter Whitey Taylor said the Late Model Stock Car drivers will be racing 50 laps for a first-place prize of $1,500. The schedule also includes Street Stocks and Mini Stocks, along with two new divisions, Six-Cylinders and Rookie.

The former track champions are headed by defending champion Frankie Pennington of Lexington.

Gates open at noon and practice starts at 5 p.m. Time trials begin at 7 p.m., with racing starting an hour later. Admission is $5 for adults, and children 10 and under get in free. - Staff report
