LYNCHBURG ANGLERS WIN AT SMITH MOUNTAIN

Lynchburg anglers James Dudley and Garnett Atkins worked chartreuse spinnerbaits in dingy water to land a winning 10-fish, 28.47-pound catch Saturday in the Vinton Bassmasters Open Partners Spring Fling at Smith Mountain Lake.

Second in a field of 63 teams were Frank Custer and Ricky Hartis of Henry County with 25.06 pounds. James Wright of Vinton and Danny Garrett of Hardy finished third with 18.08 pounds.

The big-fish award went to Dick Gregory of Blacksburg and Jerry Hodge of Salem, who entered a 7.50-pound largemouth.
