MAX MEADOWS - Ernest Brown Porter, age 70, died Sunday at his residence. Mr. Porter was retired from the U.S. Postal Service where he served as Postal Clerk from 1942 to 1962 and from 1962 until his retirement in 1980 as the Post Master in Max Meadows. He was the son of the late Hugh S. and Virginia Watts Porter. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Elizabeth Porter, of Max Meadows; five daughters, Ruth Porter of Laurinburg, N.C.; Susan Blevins, of Grahams Forge; Nancy Moore, of Wytheville; Kathy Porter, of Escondido, Calif.; Stephanie Porter, of Max Meadows; one son, William Watts Porter, of Riner; one sister, Mrs. R. L. Mabe, of Max Meadows; two brothers, Hugh Porter and Claude Porter, both of Max Meadows; six grandchildren. A graveside service will be Wednesday morning 11:00 a.m. at the West End Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Grubb Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. or at the family home at any time. The Grubb Funeral Home in Wythville is in charge of the arrangements.
