RESTAURANT FINED FOR LABOR VIOLATIONS

Four record-keeping violations have resulted in fines of $1,750 against the Dairy Queen at Valley View Mall, in a second wave of child labor law violators reported by the Labor Department. These violations involved nine minors, the department said.

A total of $35,910 was assessed against Virginia businesses among the violations reported Tuesday. Including a number reported last month, more than 12,500 violations have been reported at almost 650 companies in the nation. The companies can appeal the findings, seek to have them overturned or pay the fines. Child labor law violations were reported at three other Roanoke Valley restaurants and a fourth in Madison Heights two weeks ago.
