NOVEL TO BE TOPIC IN COLLEGE SERIES

The last program in the Southwest Virginia in Literature series at Mountain Empire Community College will be Thursday on Cathryn Hankla's novel, "A Blue Moon in Poorwater."

The discussion of Hankla's first novel, set in a Southwest Virginia coal community of 1968, will be led by Larry Richman, professor of English at Virginia Highlands Community College in Abingdon. It will be from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Dalton-Cantrell Hall.

Hankla, the fourth Southwest Virginia writer to be covered in the series, is also the author of "Learning the Mother Tongue: Stories" and "Phenomenon: Poems." The program is free.
