SOUTHWEST VA. LECTURE SERIES IS SCHEDULED

A short non-credit series of six lectures on this part of Southwest Virginia will be offered Tuesdays and Fridays during May 1-22 at the University of Virginia Center here, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Lectures will be held on two topics at each meeting.

They will include the last hanging in the state of Virginia, the pre-Revolutionary War Battle of Kings Mountain, a survey of Abingdon architecture, the geology and prehistory of Southwest Virginia, a history of the Virginia Creeper Trail, the Civil War in Southwest Virginia, the "Saltville massacre," and the political, economic and physical geography of Washington County.
