SALEM TENNIS STAR HEADED TO E. CAROLINA

Salem High tennis star Tommy McDonald has signed a letter of intent to play for East Carolina University.

McDonald was the 1989 Group AA runner-up and followed that with the United States Tennis Association junior state championship last summer.

McDonald, the Spartans' top-seeded player, is a four-year letterman. At East Carolina, he will have a partial scholarship.

McDonald said he also considered VMI, James Madison, West Virginia and Virginia Tech. - Staff report
