SANDINISTAS THREATEN A STRIKE

The Sandinista Labor Federation on Tuesday threatened a national strike and said it would seize "strategic points" if the Contras do not disarm before a new government takes office next week.

Rebel leaders have said they will not lay down their arms until the military is dismantled and replaced by a police force.

But after meeting with President-elect Violeta Barrios de Chamorro, Contra leader Oscar Sovalbarro seemed to soften his tone.

Antonio Lacayo, Chamorro's son-in-law and a leading official in her coalition, dismissed Sandinista claims that a new round of war could break out.
