A free-lance writer wrote an inaccurate, overcritical and unjust review for Hong Kong Restaurant. Originally it was the Pagoda, the first Chinese restaurant in the Roanoke Valley; the name has changed, but Peter and Lily Kuo have been the successful proprietors since 1970.
To set the record straight:
Lunch prices were grossly misquoted. The true range is $2.95 to $3.50, not $15.75. Average dinner prices are from $3.95 to $7.00.
Customers have said this restaurant has the best homemade egg rolls in town. The lobster with Chinese vegetables and crisp rice is a most delicious dish, difficult to find anywhere else in town. Customers come just for this. The beef with scallops is one of the most popular dishes there.
A loyal following of customers has developed over the years. They are a much better judge of this restaurant's food than the reviewer.

Editor's note: On all our Dining Out columns, we list the range of prices for meals, not averages. Restaurants such as Hong Kong, which serve at middday from the regular menu as well as from a lunch menu, may show a higher price at the top of the range than restaurants with a more limited luncheon selection.
