KIDNAPPING SUSPECT OVERPOWERS GUARDS

A military deserter charged with the kidnapping of his 12-year-old girlfriend's niece reportedly overpowered two guards and escaped from Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Miss., officials said.

Airman James Nicholas Coppock, 25, of Iowa is accused of abducting 4-year-old Brittany Lynn Collins from a day-care center.

The child was found unharmed March 14 in a hotel in Williamsburg, Va.

Coppock escaped from his Keesler jail cell about 9:45 p.m. Tuesday, Staff Sgt. Gary Leitz said. - Associated Press
