Featured in the exhibition are specimens of large mammals of North America and an exhibit of dinosaur footprints from Virginia.
The museum will allow three natural-history collections - birds, mammals and insects to be housed under one roof. These samples make up one-third of the total collections owned by the university, which began compilation in 1888 and today has more than 900,000 specimens.
The museum is at 428 N. Main St. Admission and parking are free. A parking lot is available across the street.
The museum also will be open Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.; Saturday, April 28, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Friday, May 4, noon to 4 p.m.; and Saturday, May 5, noon to 4 p.m. For information on the opening or for more information, call 231-6773.
