HOTLINE OFFERS NEWS ON AUTOMOBILE RECALLS

Q: I read the recall information in the March 13 Quickline column. I have one of the vehicles involved, and would like more information. Who do I contact? - J.H., Roanoke

A: The recall information was from the National Higway Traffic Safety Administration in Washington, D.C.

For more information on these or other recalls, contact the administration's toll-free Auto Safety Hotline by calling (800) 424-9393.

The hotline is a recording that tells you about safety recalls on cars, trucks and other types of motor vehicles. Callers also may request safety recall information on cars, trucks or other types of motor vehicles or equipment, or may request forms to report a safety defect or ask for other automotive safety information.

Ford vans recalled

Ford Motor Co. is recalling about 101,000 Aerostar vans of the 1986 model year to install new seals between fuel tanks and the fuel tank filler pipes.

A Ford official said fuel might seep between the seal and the fuel tank when the tank was full or nearly full, creating a risk of fire.

Ford said it was not aware of any reports of fire caused by the fuel seepage.
