SEMINARS ON ENVIRONMENT ARE PLANNED IN BLACKSBURG

The town's parks department is sponsoring three seminars to encourage discussion of environmental concerns. All begin at 7 p.m. at the community center on Patrick Henry Drive.

On Wednesday, Jim Fraser, associate professor of wildlife sciences at Virginia Tech, will speak on "The Extinction Crisis." Fraser will explain why some scientists believe extinctions are occurring at a higher rate than in the past and discuss the impact this has on our lives.

A panel from environmental organizations will lead "Recycling: Resources We Can't Live Without" April 26, an overview of recycling and its importance to the future. Individual contributions will be the focus.

Town officials will present "Land Use: Open Space Planning and Preservation" April 27. A film on preservation of open spaces will be shown. Discussion will focus on local preservation.
