PERRIER WATER HIT FOR FALSE LABEL

The "eau," as Perrier promotions state, is expected to be back on American store shelves next week. But the mineral water's label claims are about to change.

The federal Food and Drug Administration has ruled that the water's claim to be "naturally sparkling" is false. And Perrier's American distributor has agreed to drop the phrase from bottle labels by July 30, an FDA official said.

`It is not a naturally sparkling water," said Edward J. McDonnell, director of the FDA's district office in Boston. `'It is fabricated from carbon dioxide and water, which are taken out of the ground separately." - The New York Times
