POOR PEOPLE COST MORE TO TREAT, STUDY SAYS

Poor patients cost hospitals more to treat than affluent ones, a study today concludes.

The study, conducted in Massachusetts, found that poor patients were hospitalized 3 to 30 percent longer than better-off patients, depending on the hospital, and their bills were 1 to 18 percent higher.
