FINCASTLE TO PURCHASE 100,000-GALLON TANK

The town of Fincastle will have to purchase a 100,000-gallon water storage tank when Colonial Care Nursing Home connects to the town's water system.

The nursing home, located north of Fincastle on U.S. 220, plans to open in June.

The facility has been connected to Fincastle's sewage system but dug a well instead of using the town's water. The water wasn't very good, so the nursing home asked to connect to the town's water, Mayor Meredith Waid told town council members at the April meeting.

Colonial Care will pay a $39,000 connection fee, in addition to furnishing the lines and turning them back over to the town. The facility already has paid a $51,000 fee to hook up to Fincastle's sewage system.

Council plans to contact different companies for prices on water storage tanks. Council voted to put the money from the fee into a capital replacement fund, so interest can be accrued, and to borrow the money to purchase the tank at a low interest rate, Virginia Cronise, town clerk, said.

In other business, council:

Endorsed Councilman Cromer Hedrick as a write-in candidate for mayor. Hedrick has spent several terms on council in the past and recently filled in the position vacated by Jim Connell, who moved out of town.

Was told that the town office will relocate sometime in May to the office now occupied by Rockingham Insurance Co. on Roanoke Street. The insurance company is moving to Daleville.

Passed the proposed general fund budget for 1991. The income expense statement for the 8-month period ending Feb. 28 for the general fund and municipal water and sewer system fund also passed.
