COFFEE-MUG BEATING PUTS MAN IN HOSPITAL

A Roanoke man was injured Thursday when a woman repeatedly struck him in the head with a coffee mug, police said today.

In what police called a domestic dispute, Tonya D. Hayes, 36, was charged with the malicious wounding of Lewis Albert Ramsey, 45.

Police said the two, who shared a home on the 1700 block of Staunton Avenue Northwest, began to argue late Thursday afternoon.

Hayes told police that Ramsey threatened her with a knife. Ramsey was struck a number of times with a coffee mug, police said. He suffered cuts to his head and shoulders and was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital.

Officers who responded to the home found a blood-stained coffee mug in the house, police said.
