1 OF 2 BOYS WHO VANISHED FOUND DEAD

An 8-year-old boy who disappeared with his 7-year-old brother Monday has been found dead at a Chesterfield County landfill, police said.

The body of Basil Faruq was discovered about 1:20 p.m. Thursday by a landfill employee, Police Chief Marty Tapscott said. The cause of death has not been determined.

Chesterfield and Richmond police were looking for the boy's brother, Jamal Faruq.

The boys vanished when they went outside to play. Their mother, Tambra Ellis, told police the youngsters woke her after their stepmother dropped them off at her apartment about 2:30 p.m. and then went outside.

Ellis, who had worked all night, went back to sleep, she said. After she woke up, she searched for the boys but was unable to find them. The boys were reported missing about 9 p.m. and police joined the search.
