STRESS FRACTURE SLOWS HOKIES' WILLIAMS

Virginia Tech basketball player Dirk Williams, a member of the Metro Conference's all-rookie team, has a stress fracture in his left foot and will wear a cast for about a month.

Through a school spokesman, team doctor Duane Lagan said he didn't think the injury would hamper Williams' play next season. Williams, a 6-foot-4 forward, started 17 games for Tech in 1989-90 and averaged almost 10 points per game. - Staff report
