Gabbert (6-0) held Fleming to three hits, and Jason Whorley allowed no hits in pitching the sixth inning of a game shortened by the 10-run rule.
Catcher Ted Lamer went 3-for-5 with two RBI and two runs scored for Patrick Henry (6-2, 10-2).
In other baseball:
Mark Shaver went 2-for-3, drove in two runs and picked up a save as North Cross edged Roanoke Valley Christian 7-6. Ryan Shaver also had two hits and drove in a run for the Raiders (5-4).
RVC (1-7, 1-6) trailed 7-2 going to the sixth inning but batted around to score four runs. The Eagles left the bases loaded in the inning.
Jason Suhr went 2-for-4 with three steals for RVC.
At Fairfield, Brian Thomas was 2-for-4, drove in three runs and stole two bases to lead Rockbridge past Glenvar 7-3 in the Pioneer District.
Darren and Kris Whitesell each went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Rebels.
\ SOFTBALL: Junior pitcher Shelley Bowles continued to baffle batters as Franklin County beat Patrick Henry 13-0 in a Roanoke Valley District game.
Bowles, who pitched five scoreless innings, improved her record to 6-0. She has not given up an earned run.
Bowles also provided Franklin County (7-1) with all the offense it needed by hitting a three-run homer in the first. Jennifer Cundiff went 2-for-3 with a three-run triple.
At Lynchburg, Amoreli Ronquillo was 3-for-3 and Liz Landry went 3-for-4, leading Roanoke Catholic past Timberlake Christian 9-7 in a makeup game.
In their regularly scheduled contest, the Celtics were edged by Holy Cross 8-7.
Emily Deguzman led the Gaels' attack, hitting two home runs.
Kristen Humphries went 4-for-5 and North Cross took advantage of 11 Roanoke Valley Christian errors to beat the Eagles 18-9 in the Blue Ridge Conference.
Krista Miller hit a grand slam and Elissa Smith had a three-run homer for RVC (3-4, 3-3).
\ BOYS' SOCCER: Shawn Niday scored five goals and assisted on two as William Byrd buried Alleghany 18-0 in the Blue Ridge Conference.
Robbie Scharpf had four goals and one assist and Mark Andrews added three goals and an assist for the Terriers (5-0, 7-0), who outshot the visitors 67-2.
At Moneta, Salem (7-1) geared up for today's Blue Ridge District showdown with William Byrd by beating district foe Staunton River 5-0. Phu Tran scored two goals as the Spartans set a school record with their fourth consecutive shutout.
Mark Newell and Robbie Gayle scored two goals each to lead Northside past visiting Lord Botetourt 8-3. The Vikings improved their record to 7-2.
\ GIRLS' SOCCER: Ann King scored a pair of unassisted goals to lift Martinsville to a 2-1 victory over Patrick Henry in non-district action.
Liz Wedemeyer scored the goal for the Patriots (5-3).
\ BOYS' TRACK: Jack Baker won three events and set a school record by running the 300-meter hurdles in 40.6 seconds as James River defeated Lord Botetourt 70-56 in a dual meet.
