IMPROPER BEHAVIOR PROMPTED RESIGNATION

American University officials say President Richard Berendzen resigned over allegations of improper personal behavior, but they're not saying what Berendzen is alleged to have done.

Berendzen, who announced his resignation April 10, could not be reached for comment on Monday.

Edward Carr, president of the university's board of trustees, said the allegations had nothing to do with Berendzen's job.

Berendzen, 51, has been American University president for 10 years.
