The concert will conclude Greene Memorial's Fine Arts Series for the 1989-90 season.
The Audubon Quartet was founded in 1974 and made its reputation by winning international competitions in France, England and Brazil over the next three years. In 1982, it became the first American string quartet in 15 years to tour the People's Republic of China.
Since 1981, when the ensemble became the quartet-in-residence at Virginia Tech, the Audubon has been based in Blacksburg. The group continues to perform throughout the year both in the U.S. and abroad, and its recording are available on the Telarc and RCS Red Seal labels.
Cellist Thomas Shaw is the only remaining member of the original quartet. His colleagues are violinists David Ehrlich and David Salness and violist Doris Lederer.
The quartet will play Mozart's Quartet in B Flat Major, K. 458 (the "Hunt"); Bela Bartok's Quartet No. 3; and Robert Schumann's Quartet in A Major, Op. 41, No. 3.
The concert will begin at 4 p.m. There will be no charge for admission, though a voluntary offering will be collected to help defray expenses of the series.
