HOME PLANTING TREES IN RESIDENTS' NAMES

Heritage Hall nursing home and staff observed Earth Day by planting a sapling on the lawn of the facility. Another Earth Day commemoration is planned in May; every Heritage Hall resident in Virginia will have a tree planted in his or her name.

The homes' management company, HCMF Corp., bought more than 1,300 seedlings from the Virginia Department of Forestry. The trees will be planted during National Nursing Home Week, May 13-19.

Each resident will decide whether to plant the tree at the nursing home or give it to family or a community to plant.

The Blacksburg nursing home will have 194 trees. Anyone who wants to help with the planting should call 951-7000.

Seniors is compiled by Kathy Loan.
